ACA Plans Under 65

ACA plans are health insurance plans that follow the rules of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare. They’re sold through the Health Insurance Marketplace or a state marketplace such as Georgia Access annually for a 45 day period starting November 1st and ending on December 15th.

Key features of ACA plans

  • No denial for pre‑existing conditions — insurers can’t refuse you or charge more based on health history.
  • Essential health benefits required — all plans cover things like doctor visits, hospital care, prescriptions, mental health services, maternity care, and preventive care.
  • Preventive care at $0 cost — annual checkups, vaccines, and screenings are covered without copays in-network.
  • Financial help may be available — many people qualify for premium tax credits and cost‑sharing reductions based on income.
  • Standard plan levels — Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, which differ in monthly cost vs. out‑of‑pocket costs (not quality of care.)

If you’re eligible, insurers can’t refuse you or charge more based on health history.

Who ACA plans are for

  • People who are self‑employed
  • Those without employer coverage
  • Early retirees (not yet on Medicare)
  • Anyone who needs comprehensive coverage with consumer protections.
